Kayla Ferguson - Alto Saxophone
Kayla Ferguson (she/her) is a jazz saxophonist and flutist living on the ancestral lands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language group (Richmond B.C.). Kayla studied classical flute with renowned artist Brenda Fedoruk, and has a passion for bringing the sound and texture of the flute into the setting of a big band.
Kayla can be found performing with a variety of ensemble in the Lower Mainland, including The Leading Ladies Little Big Band and the Ghibli Jazz Orchestra. |
Brodie Jones - Tenor Saxophone
Originally from Kelowna BC, Brodie Jones moved to Vancouver in 2017 to pursue her passion of music and performing.
Brodie studied in the jazz program at Capilano University, and also holds her certificate in Arts and Entertainment Management. Through her studies, Brodie has had the privilege of working with numerous internationally renowned musicians Brad Turner, Bria Skonberg, Christian Fabian, Dee Daniels, Harold Mabern, Jeff Coffin, Jill Townsend, Jodi Proznick, and Lance Bryant. Under the leadership of the team at Macklam Feldman Management, Brodie has branched out into the world of music management while still maintaining a presence in the music scene. |
Sofia Avelino - Baritone Saxophone
Sofia Avelino is a Brazilian-Canadian vocalist, saxophone player, and music educator who is is passionate about fostering community through ensemble music-making. She grew up singing in choirs, playing piano, and began playing saxophone at 12 years old. Sofia holds a B.Mus in Jazz Studies from Capilano University and a B.Ed. in Music Education from UBC.
Sofia developed a passion for jazz and big band music in her teens after taking up swing dancing and watching local musicians play at dances. She has a love for choral singing and has previously sung with ensembles such as the Vancouver Youth Choir, performing at the American Choral Director's Association conference in Kansas City, World Choral Symposium in Istanbul, Turkey, and at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition to The Leading Ladies Little Big Band, Sofia plays baritone saxophone with Dean Thiessen’s Stranger Friends Orchestra and the Christopher Berner Jazz Orchestra. |
