Casey Thomas-Burns - Director
Born and raised in Vancouver B.C., Casey Thomas-Burns is the director of The Leading Ladies. Casey holds her diploma in Jazz Studies from Capilano University (2019), and is currently pursuing her BMus in the same subject as well as her Advanced Certificate in Arts and Entertainment Management.
At Capilano University, Casey is the lead trombonist for the "A" Band directed by Brad Turner, and sings with top vocal group 'Nitecap'. Outside of her studies at Capilano, Casey has played with a variety of ensembles in and around Vancouver, ranging from big bands to jazz duos, even performing with folk groups during her time as a musician at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. She marched with The Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps (Drum Corps International) in 2018.
In addition to being a musician, Casey is making a name for herself as an emerging arts administrator. In the summers of 2020 and 2021, she was the Music Programmer for the Arts Council of New Westminster, where she programmed the inaugural Queen's Park Arts Festival, produced the 2021 Summer Concert Series, and produced and co-hosted the second season of the ArtsNW podcast. Casey also programmed the first ever outdoor performance series at the Grosvenor Galleria Plaza in West Vancouver, in partnership with the Kay Meek Theatre.
Casey has recently been awarded a place in the Hard Rubber Orchestra's 2021 Reading Session for Emerging Composers. For more information please visit caseythomasburns.ca
